WELCOME

AFFEW's mission is to provide visitors and residents with information regarding environmental issues having local importance by promoting public awareness, hosting balanced discussions, providing referral to other organizations, and sponsoring activities which promote a healthier ecosystem.

Spring/Summer 2008

  • Water Compact of the Great Lakes - AFFEW is holding a meeting regarding the Water Compact of the Great Lakes. Grenatta Thomasskey, from the Tip of the Mitt Watershed council, will be talking about legislation concerning water diversions and protection of the water. May 7th at 7 p.m. at the People's Church (115 West Loomis in downtown Ludington). Hope you can make it!

  • AFFEW Beach Sweep

  • Alternative Energy Fair
    June 27nd – 29th
    Onekama Fairgrounds..We are sharing a booth with the Green Team from WSCC and need people throughout the weekend to work it - even just an hour or two. The energy fair committee also needs volunteers - work 3 hours get in free, work 6 get in free all weekend and camp for free at Matsons in Manistee....more info on that www.glrea.org

  • 4th of July Parade -We would love more earth lovers to walk with us in this fun event!

  • Household Hazardous Waste Collection
    Saturday, September 13
    Please hold on to your Household Hazardous Waste until September when the county will be holding a collection. For more information, contact us at makeadifference@affew.net

  • Battery Recycling - Sidney Shaw and Joe Maloney optained a $2000 grant from the Mason County Foundation to help with our HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES!!!! Yes! Mason County Central raised close to $200 for this program with the help of Sheryl Martin. There is a dedicated committee working on this and can always use more folk. So, we will let you know when all that is a happening....along with all the other events...
